American Friends Service Committee: Ask your Senators to support New START
Please support clean ratification of the New START Treaty
Dear [Decision Maker],
(Please personalize your message)
I am writing to urge you to support early ratification of the New START (START Follow On) Treaty, which President Obama has signed in Prague.
While the Cold War is now a fading memory, the threat of nuclear weapons remains. Reducing that threat through the treaty’s minimal reductions of U.S. and Russian deployed arsenals can only contribute to our security. The treaty’s improved verification agreement is of even greater importance because it reinforces non-proliferation efforts.
It is essential that this treaty be ratified without amendments (e.g. to build yet another new nuclear weapon or to increase the U.S. budget for nuclear weapons production) because such amendments would be seen as hypocritical and would undermine the worldwide, urgent efforts to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation.
Thank you in advance for supporting the quick and clean ratification of New START.
Sincerely,
American Friends Service Committee: Ask your Senators to support New START
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
