WASHINGTON — Republicans carry substantial advantages as they move into the final month of the fall campaign, but the resilience of vulnerable Democrats is complicating Republican efforts to lock down enough seats to capture the House and take control of the unsettled electoral battleground.

Genius parody and watch till the very end. It helps make a little sense of why the GOP's incoherent populist claptrap may be beginning to backfire a little:
-
— As you can see from some of these shots (and the video we ran yesterday), the crowd was amazingly diverse: It drew people of all colors and persuasions — except, of course, conservatives. That was quite a contrast with the Beckapalooza snorefest, which was amazingly white and otherwise perfectly monotone.
— And, um, so much for that Liberal Media Bias myth, eh? CNN barely covered it at all. Of course, Fox carried nary a word of it. None of the major networks — CBS, NBC, ABC or Fox — even bothered to report on it. And over at the WaPo, the story reported only "tens of thousands" attended — when in fact the numbers clearly exceeded 100,000.
— In stark contrast to the Tea Parties, there was relatively little kookery at the rally. There was a tiny handful of 9/11 Troofers encamped on the back fringes, and there were some far-left radical groups similarly parked along the edges of the rally.

Needless to say, the federal government is not going to deploy the doctors and scientists of the CDC to call every American in the country every single day to make sure they eat their fruits and vegetables. But the CDC is running a public awareness campaign highlighting the various benefits to a healthier diet, and has even assembled a convenient list of recipies that Americans can use to take advantage of fruits and vegetables in their diet. Given that September is Fruits and Veggies More Matters month, perhaps Broun — who is a medical doctor by trade — should be giving his constituents tips about eating healthier instead of scaring them about the nonexistent threat of the federal government forcing them to eat their vegetables.

Maybe I'm wrong.
In fact, maybe I’m really, really wrong, which is the reaction I hear when I dare even to broach this notion to commentators and political strategists in both parties. So let me state it plainly: I now think the Democrats will hold the Congress—yes, the House as well as the Senate—and turn back high-profile Republican challengers in California and elsewhere.
The GOP strategy of “no” worked to slow the recovery, stoke fears about fictions like death panels in the health-reform bill, and persuade voters to strike out in frustration against Democrats. The trend peaked in August, a month Democrats probably wish they could abolish given the dog days they suffered then, in 2009 as well as 2010.

It is inexcusable for any Democrat or progressive right now to stand on the sidelines in this midterm election. There may be complaints about us not having gotten certain things done, not fast enough, making certain legislative compromises. But right now, we've got a choice between a Republican Party that has moved to the right of George Bush and is looking to lock in the same policies that got us into these disasters in the first place, versus an administration that, with some admitted warts, has been the most successful administration in a generation in moving progressive agendas forward.
….If we want the kind of country that respects civil rights and civil liberties, we'd better fight in this election. And right now, we are getting outspent eight to one by these 527s that the Roberts court says can spend with impunity without disclosing where their money's coming from.
