Such observations of very distant galaxies, I think, are the first of countless to come. A redshift of 8.6 is certainly pretty far. When the new space telescopes get up there I think they will be finding forever more distant galaxies. It will be very easy to change the present BB age of the universe by simply saying that after Inflation the universe came close to a halt and then very slowly started to accelerate. Based upon this ad hoc proposal they could make the universe much older than its present estimate of 13.7 billion years. I hope I live long enough for astronomers and theorists to realize that the universe is many times older than any BB model could allow. That being the case I would expect a better model of the universe will eventually come along and replace the BB model which has continuously been contradicted by observation over its history.
