mirroredphotography: My favourite five photographs from this year. Im going to say this year was year of the portrait photographs for me. Some of these may not be my most popular of all my images, but they have the most meaning to me and I like them the best. They are listed in chronological order, it was hard enough to pick five – let alone put them in order of preference! #1 – ‘Dreaming’ is from January this year, when I went camping around Tasmania with my family. There were five of us, cramped in a small prius with all of our gear, luckily there wasn’t much driving. We were camping in Bay of Fires for a couple of nights, this area is full of beautiful beaches filled with turquoise water, wrapped in rocks covered in a red lichen. This shot is taken one clear night on the beach near where we were camping with my brothers help painting the rock with a torch. #2 – ‘Back Again’ was taken on a second roadtrip around Tasmania with two friends from Uni. We spent a little over week driving around in a van, sharing a small, uncomfortable bed. It was an awesome experience and a lot different than travelling with the family; with more pubs visited, less planning and overall experience I will never forget. This shot is also from the Bay of Fires and taken about 50m from Dreaming. #3 – ‘North Ramshead’ is located in the heart of the Snowy Mountains. For those who don’t know this is where I grew up, spending the first 19 years of my life in the area. This shot was taken on a day trip with my father on the way to Mt Kosciuszko (Australia’s highest peak). Some of the rock formations are unreal in this area, with huge balancing boulders and abstract clusters of granite. #4 – ‘Maelstrom’ is another shot taken with my brothers help. I had tried my luck at light painting a couple of times before and had seen a few rad images of people using steel wool and spinning it around with a whisk. The area this was taken is from where my Mother grew up on the South Coast of NSW. I have fond memories of this night, running around with my brother like madmen on the beach and rocks with sparks flying all over the place. #5 – ‘Victoria Bridge’ is a small bridge that crosses the Nepean River between Penrith and the edge of the blue mountains (Emu Plains). The river is about five minutes from where I go to University and live on campus. This shot was taken during the weeks where there were many bushfires in the area, through the smoke in on the river you can also see the newer, highway supporting bridge in distance. A big thanks to all my followers & Tumblr for all the support this year and special thanks to Gray-Card, Lux Lit, Lensblr and anyone else who continuously shared my photographs throughout the year. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and an awesome New Year! MP
