neonconflagrations: In June of 1938, the last remaining resident of St. Thomas, Nevada set fire to his house and rowed away as the slowly rising waters of Lake Mead, formed by the recently-built Hoover Dam, reached the foot of his bed. For the next several decades the settlement would be at the bottom of the lake, 60 feet below the surface, until recent southwestern drought conditions caused a drop in water levels, revealing the old townsite. http://ift.tt/1RWqdtg
