Well, hello! I’m in Canada at the moment, have been here in Nova Scotia for over three months now. Haven’t been on Flickr for many reasons, first and foremost, the lack of springtails here, due to the horrendous weather. They’re all hatching out now though, so thought I’d post up photos of this chap. I guess I’m back on again for a while at least, as I finally have photos to share and I’ve got through the winter relatively unscathed. I really must start checking out everyone’s photo stream again. I’ve briefly spotted some great dragonfly photos and a really cool heather fly from Pauline (?) so far. Very few springtail photos though. Has the collembolan joy fizzled…?! What’s going on? Oh well.

I was so excited to see F. quinquefasciatus though. I wasn’t expecting them here at all. They seem to like hanging out with all the thousands of B. hortensis on the farm’s black plastic. Beautiful animals. I was so jealous when I saw Jan’s photos as their look is so distinctive. I was well chuffed to find them.

Here’s a video of one… youtu.be/PEb0bhwPZaY

It’s worth pointing out that this guy is under 1mm big, and it’s standing next to moss leaves….
