Close-up of the face of a common Earwig: Forficula auricularia. Earwigs are interesting up close because their chitin is more transparent than most bugs. The legs and antennae especially, but there’s kind of a lid above the mouth that you can mostly see right through. Order Dermaptera in latin means "skin wig" because the wing covers on the thorax looks transparent. (see full bug shot in the comments). The head is very ant shaped too. Found in a dog water bowl (Portland, OR).

This is about 2mm of bug face at 9x (shot w. Seiwa Correct Tokyo Mitutoyo clone 10x objective on Nikon 180mm ED. Single flash diffused w. styrofoam and Puffs Plus Brand Facial Tissue. Full snoot lens shade on the objective. About 270 shots at 7 micron increments).
