The observatories most people are familiar with are on the other side of it. I parked right below the summit parking lot and did a short, forty minute hike down. Absolutely no wind. The only sounds were from the u`au birds and my breath. Gives you a perspective of the hike to get here and the sense of solitude. No, there was no fear of the darkness. Just a sense of awe from the incredible beauty of this fascinating place.
