This beautiful wildflower with an ugly name was prominent in the Adirondacks last week. It’s a European species introduced to America as early as 1683! The name is derived from an alleged theory that the dried plant was a cure for snakebite. Bugloss is from ancient Greek for "ox-tongue" which its leaves were thought to resemble.
