Mount Adams looms over two fishermen at Takhlakh Lake, high on the mountain’s northwest side.

Adams (12,281 ft [3,743 m]), a potentially active stratovolcano, is the second-tallest mountain in the state of Washington. Its slopes include 209 perennial snow and ice features and 12 officially named glaciers. One of the local native American names for the mountain is Klickitat, the personification of which features prominently in an origin story about jealousy between two warriors – Wy’East and Klickitat (Mts. Hood and Adams) – for a beautiful maiden – Loowit (Mt. St. Helens). According to the story, Wy’East won the conflict, with his deciding blow to the top of the head being responsible for Mt. Adams’s blunted cone.

Thank you for stopping by, and for all of your continued kind comments and favorites while I have been away. My travels will continue for a few more weeks, and I’ll only occasionally be in range of an internet connection. But thank you again, and I will catch up with everyone once I am back.
