Photo by @petekmuller/@prime_collective. A view of the #lava lake at the top of Mount #Nyiragongo in the eastern Democratic Republic of #Congo. The levels of visible #lava fluctuate but when they are high, this crater holds the largest lava lake in the world. From the crater’s rim, where this picture was taken, one can hear the distant roar of gas explosions and lava movement below. One can also feel the heat and smell the gases from hundreds of feet above. This was the first time I’d seen lava first hand and I was in awe of its truly radiant color.
