While Nyiragongo and another nearby mountain, Nyamuragira, are the only active volcanic sites, this area of eastern #DRC is laden with evidence of current, former and subterranean activity. In nearby Lake #Kivu, swimmers are advised to be cautious about clouds of gas, usually methane and carbon dioxide, that are a product of ongoing volcanic activity in the area.
