Photo by @ciriljazbec / I have been covering the story about the migrant crisis in Slovenia since last Wednesday. During the night I was traveling with the group of migrants, amongst which there were plenty of families. People were tired and trying to cope with the cold temperatures. It is hard to come up with any words when you encounter such moments. Of course this is a huge migrant wave flooding the Europe and one wonders where all those people are going to end up and what the future holds for them. With my co-workers from National Geographic we were working day and night for the past week. We put our heart and soul into it. At the same time we tried to put emotions aside in order to report as objectively as possible. The hardest was to work during the night when the families kept asking us for food and warm blankets as it got colder. By far the most touching moment occurred early Sunday morning. A limping mother and her son, none of whom speaks English, fell behind the group, because they were unable to keep up with their pace.The expression on her face was full of despair and fear. The son, whose boots were clearly too big for him, was struggling to carry a heavy backpack. At one moment he collapsed to the ground. I helped him and carried his backpack for a while. Fortunately, a volunteer came and picked them up with the car. I am deeply moved and shocked by the ongoing situation. At this point I am wondering where is a proper course of action from the EU and the rest of the world.
