I think this whole virus pandemic has been bad for my general level of anxiety, definitely a challenge. Today I ventured out to the grocery store, while wearing a homemade mask consisting of a bandana and shoelaces, also wearing sunglasses and gloves. It was definitely rough going breathing through the cotton while wearing the mask, and also my glasses kept fogging up, but I didn’t want to try and adjust my mask once I left the apartment. So I rode my bike with my mask on, and once I got to the grocery store, I made sure to just get essentials that would fit in my backpack, like two cartons of eggs and two loaves of bread (the maximum of each staple). I was pretty sure the bread was on sale, and usually, I double-check the prices as they are rung up when checking out, but I didn’t notice that the bread rang up as full price. It bothered me when I looked at the receipt while putting everything in my bag outside, but there wasn’t anything I could do at that point since they don’t take returns anymore because of the pandemic and also I would look like a major a-hole making a fuss about the bread not ringing up right, and anyways my speech would have been muffled by my mask. About half of the people shopping had masks on (even a few of the employees) whereas last time I was there about a week ago, almost no one had masks (and none of the employees). There was almost no one on the sidewalks and streets, in cars or on foot, except for a few homeless people and people working construction. Also a couple people walking their dogs and cutting grass.
