Ukraine says Russian escape routes lead only to Russia and Belarus | DW News
Ukraine has rejected a Russian proposal for humanitarian corridors. Ukraine’s deputy prime minister said it was not an acceptable option, because the planned routes out of several Ukrainian cities only led to Russia or its ally Belarus. Kyiv also accuses the Kremlin of continuing to shell civilians during previously agreed ceasefires to help people escape.
Overnight, Russian forces stepped up their bombardment of several cities across the country, according to Ukrainian officials. There were reports of heavy shelling in Kharkhiv in the east, Mykolaiv in the south and Cherniv in the north, as well as on the outskirts of Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says his country will not forgive Russia for the suffering the war is causing. Here’s part of his latest address.

How is the war in Ukraine going for Russia? | DW News
British military intelligence souces say Russian forces are now deliberately targeting areas populated by civilians — a response to the Ukrainian resistance, which is slowing Russia’s advance. In spite of these increasingly brutal tactics, volunteers, including many from outside Ukraine, are signing up to join Ukraine’s army. Men between the ages of 18 and 60 have to stay in the country so they are available for conscription.

Despite all those volunteers, the Ukrainian military remains outnumbered. But more and more reports show that Russia’s invasion has slowed or stopped in recent days.
Russian soldiers have moved into Ukraine’s north, east and south, although it’s not clear how much territory they actually control. Columns are getting close to the capital Kyiv, and as we heard earlier, the city of Mariupol on the Black Sea has been under siege for days.

Horrific scenes in battle for Kyiv as families killed fleeing Russian onslaught – BBC News
As Russian forces close in on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, families have been fleeing for their lives as missiles rain down on the outskirts of the city.

In the town of Irpin, just 20 kilometres from the centre of Kyiv, Russian shelling has claimed many lives, including families and children, as they fled their homes in an attempt to escape the onslaught.
