Oh what a tangled web a planetary nebula can weave. The Red Spider Planetary Nebula shows the complex structure that can result when a normal star ejects its outer gases and becomes a white dwarf star. Officially tagged NGC6537, this two-lobed symmetric planetary nebula houses one of the hottest white dwarfs ever observed, probably as part of a binary star system. Internal winds flowing out from the central stars, have been measured in excess of 1,000 kilometers per second. These winds expand the nebula, flow along the nebula’s walls, and cause waves of hot gas and dust to collide. Atoms caught in these colliding shocks radiate light shown in the featured false-color infrared picture by the James Webb Space Telescope. The Red Spider Nebula lies toward the constellation of the Archer (Sagittarius). Its distance is not well known but has been estimated by some to be about 4,000 light-years. via NASA https://go.nasa.gov/4btMm3F

https://www.youtube.com/watch/_lps6D0eZ5A Trump’s next move in Iran | Ian Bremmer’s Quick Take
In this Quick Take, Ian Bremmer breaks down the growing tensions between the US and Iran, calling it “the next area of potential large-scale conflict where President Trump is interested in changing the facts on the ground.”
Trump has set a high-stakes choice: a sweeping deal or possible military strikes. Ian notes, “Trump was very close to ordering military strikes just a few weeks ago,” but delayed due to insufficient defenses for American forces and allies. Now, the US is moving to strengthen its presence in the region.
The administration’s demands are extensive: removing Iran’s enriched uranium, limiting its ballistic missile program, and curbing support for regional proxies.
Ian warns that any military action could spark regional instability, provoke Russia and China, and drive oil prices higher.

https://www.youtube.com/watch/XiIxWtNspZI Why Democrats are Afraid of Power
Marc J. Dunkelman, author of “Why Nothing Works: Who Killed Progress — and How to Bring It Back,” stops by the studio to talk to Lovett about how Democrats — once they regain power — can make government work again. Together they dive into the ways progressive governance changed from the New Deal to today, the influence of Robert Caro’s polemic “The Power Broker” on a generation of public employees, and why they’re both hopeful that Democrats will be able to find their way out of the darkness and learn to do big things again.
Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us—one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America—a no-bullshit conversation about politics. https://www.youtube.com/watch/2MEFa_uEB4w Calls grow for independent probe into Minneapolis shootings | 60 Minutes
Lawmakers are calling for an independent investigation into immigration enforcement tactics in Minnesota as members of the Trump administration face scrutiny over claims they’ve made.
“60 Minutes” is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen’s Top 10.
What part of Orion is this? Just north of the famous Orion Nebula is a picturesque star forming region in Orion’s Sword that contains a lot of intricate dust — some of which appears blue because it reflects the light of bright embedded stars. The region’s popular name is the Running Man Nebula because, looked at from the right, part of the brown dust appears to be running legs. Cataloged as Sharpless 279, the reflection nebula is not only part of the constellation of Orion, but part of the greater Orion molecular cloud complex. Light from the Running Man’s bright stars, including 42 Orionis, the bright star closest to the featured image center, is slowly destroying and reshaping the surrounding dust, which will likely be completely gone in about 10 million years. The nebula spans about 15 light years and lies about 1,500 light years away. via NASA https://go.nasa.gov/4tbUHiL
https://www.youtube.com/watch/24-S0NPcwZU Game Over, Assholes: The Economy Chose Violence
This week’s Elephant in the Room is simple: Trump is losing—and everyone can see it. Inflation is still squeezing voters where it hurts, and no amount of fear-mongering can spin grocery bills, rent, or gas prices. On immigration, the administration’s answer has been to let U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement run feral—escalating raids, brutality, and spectacle that dominated headlines this week and triggered backlash even among swing voters. The result? A political own-goal: cruelty without control, chaos without results, and optics so toxic they’re pushing the middle further away. In this episode, Rick breaks down why Donald Trump is hemorrhaging trust on the economy, why extreme ICE tactics are backfiring in real time, and how this week made painfully clear that fear politics doesn’t beat inflation—and never has.

Mars has put on a happy face. The Martian crater Galle is famous because it has internal markings that make it look like a face that is both smiling and winking. These markings were originally discovered in the 1970s in pictures taken by the Viking Orbiter. The Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) spacecraft that orbited Mars from 1996 to 2006 captured the featured picture. Happy Face Crater and its iconic features were formed by chance billions of years ago when a city-sized asteroid slammed into the Martian surface. All rocky planets and moons in our Solar System show impact craters, with the highest number of craters found on Earth’s Moon and the planet Mercury. Earth and Venus would show the most, though, were it not for weather and erosion. via NASA https://go.nasa.gov/4c5rTCl

https://www.youtube.com/watch/aKdKiWvzHyM Something Is Changing In America After Alex Pretti
Outrage over the killing of Alex Pretti spreads to nonpolitical and Trump-friendly spaces, even as Border Czar Tom Homan promises to “draw down” the DHS presence in Minneapolis and the White House caves to Democrats’ demands on debating DHS funding. Could this be a turning point in the Trump presidency? Jon and Dan discuss all the latest, including Anderson Cooper’s extraordinary conversation with Stella Carlson, the woman who filmed the crucial angle of the shooting. Then they turn to the FBI’s deeply troubling raid on the election headquarters in Fulton County, Georgia, and the premiere of “Melania,” a multi-million dollar bribe from Jeff Bezos to the first family disguised as a documentary. Then, Jon sits down with MSNOW’s Joe Scarborough to talk about why Republicans in Congress still put up with Trump, and why he hopes the next Democratic nominee returns to the party’s organizing roots. Plus: a special preview of our new subscriber-only show, Pod Save America: OnlyFriends.
