US conservative commentator and podcaster Tucker Carlson has outlined his opposition to Donald Trump’s military action against Iran in an interview with Victoria Derbyshire for the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg show.
Tucker Carlson said he believes the United States went to war with Iran “at the behest and then the demand of Israel”. Carlson also accused the Israeli government of committing a genocide in Gaza, a charge the Israeli government strongly denies. The UN’s top court the International Court of Justice has not yet made a determination as to whether Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to genocide.
Victoria Derbyshire challenged Tucker Carlson on allegations of antisemitism, and on his interview with far right activist Nick Fuentes, who has praised Hitler and questioned the Holocaust.

For 80 years, the US dollar has been the world’s reserve currency. Its dominance was built on US economic strength, institutional trust, and the post-World War Two Bretton Woods system, which pegged global currencies to the dollar rather than gold. But today, the greenback is under pressure. The dollar shed about a tenth of its value in the first year of Trump’s second term. Tariffs, White House pressure on the Federal Reserve, and rising debt have all shaken confidence.
Xi Jinping has made renminbi internationalization a top priority. Vladimir Putin has repeatedly called on BRICS nations to ditch the dollar. But for all the talk of de-dollarization, when uncertainty hits, the dollar is still what people reach for. Foreign investment in US assets actually climbed in the second half of 2025.
The reason: TINA, there is no alternative. Until another currency offers the depth, liquidity, and institutional backing of the dollar, the greenback isn’t going anywhere. Trump’s policies are accelerating efforts to diversify, but dethroning the dollar requires a replacement, and no one has one ready.”

Harvard economist and former IMF Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath explains how Iran war is creating a surge in energy costs that’s rippling through the global economy and pushing prices higher across everything from fuel to food.
The economic impact of the Iran war is already showing up in rising prices. Energy costs have surged, with oil and gas prices driving a sharp increase in inflation and pushing up the cost of everyday goods.But Harvard economist and former IMF Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath says the bigger risk is what she calls “structural damage”—long-term economic shifts that don’t show up immediately but build over time.
So far, the hit to global growth is modest, but it could worsen quickly if energy prices remain elevated. And while the US is somewhat insulated, the inflation shock is being felt worldwide. At the same time, artificial intelligence investment has helped offset some of the economic drag from tariffs in the US, masking underlying weaknesses. But whether that translates into lasting productivity gains remains uncertain.
The price increases are immediate—but the deeper economic damage may take longer to unfold.
