This scene would be beautiful even without the comet. By itself, the sunrise sky is an elegant deep blue on high, with faint white stars peeking through, while near the horizon is a pleasing tan. By itself, the foreground hills of eastern Slovakia are appealingly green, with the Zadňa hura and Veľká hora hills in the distance, and with the lights of small towns along the way. Venus, by itself on the right, appears unusually exquisite, surrounded by a colorful atmospheric corona. But what attracts the eye most is the comet. On the left, in this composite image taken just before dawn yesterday morning, is Comet Nishimura. On recent mornings around the globe, its bright coma and long ion tail make many a morning panoramic photo unusually beautiful. Tomorrow, C/2023 P1 (Nishimura) will pass its nearest to the Earth for about the next 434 years. via NASA https://ift.tt/3JEcmXn

https://www.youtube.com/watch/kt-HKqXYNao Thief Film Cue Music by Tangerine Dream
This is a mix of a (nearly) complete Tangerine Dream score for the 1981 Michael Mann film Thief, which was very different from the music released on the official soundtrack album in 1981. That album was missing many music cues heard in the film, and included music not heard in the film. This soundtrack includes nearly every music cue heard in the film, including the film version of the ending music composed by Craig Safan, Confrontation (unknown guitarist).1. Diamond Diary (film cue mix with rain effects) 00:00
– remix of previously released and unreleased music
2. Gags and Fairy Tales (film cue mix) 11:20
– previously unreleased
3. Life Vision (film cue mix) 12:55
– previously unreleased
4. Habeas Corpus (film cue mix – variant of Scrap Yard) 16:44
– previously unreleased
5. The Fifth Alarm (film cue mix – variant of Diamond Diary) 18:52
– previously unreleased
6. The Break In (film cue_remix of Thru Metamorphic Rocks)* 23:54
7. Beach Scene (extended film cue mix) 32:00
– remix of previously released and unreleased music
8. Dr. Destructo 1 (film cue mix) 39:11
– previously unreleased
9. Car Lot Ambush (film cue_remix of Thru Metamorphic Rocks)* 41:25
– remix of previously released music
10. Back to Work Frank (film cue mix_variation on Kiew Mission intro from Exit) 44:32
– previously unreleased
11. Dr. Destructo 2 (extended remix of soundtrack album and film cue versions) 46:51
– remix of previously released and unreleased music
12. Confrontation (film cue mix – Craig Safan composition/unknown guitarist)† 51:43
– previously unreleasedThis music was mixed together from the surround sound stems extracted from the Criterion Blu Ray 5.1 channels, with a few sections of music mixed in from official soundtrack. It also includes the music heard in the film that was remixed from the 1979 Tangerine Dream album Force Majeure. The versions of those tracks here are the film versions, not the 1979 album versions. Some of the film score cues are not exactly as they appear in the film because I had to take some artistic license in mixing them in order to remove sound effects and dialogue, while attempting to keep the musicality intact.
* The original version of this track appears on the 1979 album Force Majeure
† Tangerine Dream does not play on this track, but the sound was influenced by TD and the Pink Floyd song Comfortably Numb.Edgar Froese – guitar, keyboards, electronic equipment
Christopher Franke – synthesizers, electronic equipment, electronic percussion
Johannes Schmoelling – keyboards, electronic equipment
Klaus Krieger – percussion on “Thru Metamorphic Rocks” (recorded 1978)
Craig Safan – composed “Confrontation”. He is not the person playing the guitar. He said that it was performed by session musicians, but I have never found out who the guitarist was.Mixed in 2015 by KR
Dedicated to the late great James Caan. RIP

https://www.youtube.com/watch/_8ebLtpu7NA The Keep extended ending music(Walking in the Air)by Tangerine Dream
Extended music by Tangerine Dream from 1983 film The Keep, directed by Michael Mann. From ‘The Keep Original Soundtrack – The Complete Recordings’ bootleg. No official soundtrack of the actual film music has ever been released.Track info:
22. It Ends – TD arrangement of Walking In the Air by Howard Blake (7:40) – This is an extended version including music from the alternate ending showing Eva going into the bowels of the Keep to find Glaeken, where he is revived. As with previous versions, this betrays the source recording, as wind noise sound effects from the film can be heard in several places, although voices have been removed. The ending incorporates the same music heard in the track The 31st Floor, by Edgar Froese from his 1982 soundtrack to the film Kamikazee 1989. Similar to the previous bootleg tracks called End Title, The Keep Theme, The Keep End Theme, and Walking In The Air (End Titles), all recorded from the VHS or Laser Disk of the film.More info: It Ends – This is Tangerine Dream’s cover arrangement of Howard Blake’s song Walking In The Air from the animated film The Snowman (©1982 Highbridge Music), and one of the fan favorite pieces of music from The Keep. This is another track Michael Mann specifically asked TD to perform for the film, or according to composer Howard Blake, Michael Mann told him both he and Tangerine Dream loved the song and wanted to use the song melody throughout the film. Blake said he was asked to collaborate with them, but he was committed to another film at the time, so he gave his blessing to use the theme. I have doubts that Edgar Froese and Tangerine Dream wanted to cover music written by someone else for this film, especially since they had already composed their own music, so this was probably something Mann told Blake to get him on board with allowing the use.
Walking in The Air was used for the ending sequence of the film and the credits. According to Blake, TD also used his theme in the Awakening/Sailing to Romania and Glaeken and Eva love scene. However, the former was based on TD’s own composition Moorland, which does not use his chords or melody, and the latter was composed by Thomas Tallis in 1554, which has a similar female voice, but not the same music. The only place Blake’s music was used in the film is the end scene going into the film credits. TD’s version is still very much in their own style and arrangement, but clearly follows the chord progression of Walking In The Air. The original (or alternate) ending of The Keep features a 7 minute + version of this song that is simply beautiful to hear.

Former British intelligence and security officer, Philip Ingram, joins us to discuss the latest on the war in Ukraine.
He discusses the politics surrounding the revival of the Black Sea grain deal, which prime minister Rishi Sunak said the communique at the G20 used “very-strong language” about.
He also talked about Ukraine’s counter-offensive and how the country is taking the fight into Russian territory.

What is this person doing? In 2012, an annular eclipse of the Sun was visible over a narrow path that crossed the northern Pacific Ocean and several western US states. In an annular solar eclipse, the Moon is too far from the Earth to block out the entire Sun, leaving the Sun peeking out over the Moon’s disk in a ring of fire. To capture this unusual solar event, an industrious photographer drove from Arizona to New Mexico to find just the right vista. After setting up and just as the eclipsed Sun was setting over a ridge about 0.5 kilometers away, a person unknowingly walked right into the shot. Although grateful for the unexpected human element, the photographer never learned the identity of the silhouetted interloper. It appears likely that the person is holding a circular device that would enable them to get their own view of the eclipse. The shot was taken at sunset on 2012 May 20 at 7:36 pm local time from a park near Albuquerque. Next month, on October 14, a different narrow swath across North and South America will be exposed to a different annular solar eclipse, if the sky is clear. Simultaneously, cloud-free observers almost anywhere on either continent will be able to see a partial solar eclipse. via NASA https://ift.tt/n1cvkXH -

Comet Nishimura is growing. More precisely, the tails C/2023 P1 (Nishimura) are growing as it nears the Sun. Discovered only last month, the comet is already near naked eye brightness as it now moves inside the Earth’s orbit. The comet will be nearest the Earth next week, but nearest the Sun the week after — on September 17. Speculation holds that expelled ice and dust from Comet Nishimura’s last visit to the inner Solar System may have created the Sigma Hydrids meteor shower which peaks yearly in December. If so, then this meteor shower may become more active, refreshed with new comet debris. Pictured, Comet Nishimura was captured from Edgewood, New Mexico, USA four nights ago, showing a long ion tail structured by interactions with the Sun’s wind. Look for this comet near your eastern horizon just before sunrise for the next few mornings, but very near your western horizon just after sunset next week — as its coma continues to brighten and its tails continue to grow. via NASA https://ift.tt/y0UtuCY -
