This is one of Bob Dylan’s best feel-good songs. After his self-imposed exile from the hot spotlight in late 1966, he wrote this song in Woodstock, NY about finally settling down with his family.
The Byrds covered this beautiful song in 1968, butchered it as usual, and then Bob finally recorded it in the studio in 1971 for his “Greatest Hits Vol. 2” record. This is a rare alternate take that has circulated on bootleg records for decades.
I ripped this off of one of my vinyl bootlegs and cleaned up the background hiss with audio software.

Updated for 2023. This is a longer mix of Tangerine Dream’s score for Legend. This Version #3 adds some additional film music to track 11. The original shorter and less repetitive (and less complete) version 2 is here.
This is a mix of a (nearly) complete Tangerine Dream score for the American version of Ridley Scott’s 1985 fantasy film, Legend. It includes music that appears in the film but was not on the original official soundtrack release, music from the official soundtrack, versions of some unreleased film music that was performed live, and a few pieces of film music from Johannes Schmoelling’s Early Beginnings CD (mixed in tracks 10 and 12) and part of the track Goldhunter from The Hollywood Years Volume 1 (mixed in track 11, primarily the sequencer part from Legend, not the music Edgar Froese added over it later).
The track order is more or less in sequence with the order the music cues appeared in the film. Several of the same music themes are repeated throughout the film, each time in a slightly different form. Even though it can sound repetitive, I have tried to include each version.

The unreleased music included here was mostly mixed together from the surround sound stems of TD’s music extracted from the Legend Blu Ray 5.1 surround sound channels and live performances from 1986. This mix is not really “complete” as there are still some sections of music in the film that cannot be cleaned up and separated from the dialogue and sound effects, but it includes nearly all of the major music themes and motifs heard in the film. Some of the film score cues are not exactly as they appear in the film because I had to take some artistic license in mixing them in order to remove sound effects and dialogue, while attempting to keep the musicality intact. In some cases the music cue is more of a “medley” of different parts of the specific cue, rather than the entire cue.
This version of the track “Loved By the Sun” (here titled Unicorn Theme/Jack and Lily Theme) used for the end of the film is without the Jon Anderson vocals, as those were added without TD’s cooperation. Anderson (of the band Yes) was commissioned by the film producers to provide lyrics and sing them over Tangerine Dream’s music, after TD completed their work. Edgar Froese of TD said “we are not totally enthusiastic about that”. I agree, especially after hearing TD perform the original version live sans vocals. As much as I like Jon’s voice, I think the vocals do not add anything and actually take away from the grand and epic feel of the music. David Tickle was responsible for the additional production and engineering for the Jon Anderson sessions.
That was actually an earlier attempt at adding vocals to the “Unicorn Theme”. German singer Susanne Pawlitzki sang vocals on a pop version of the Unicorn theme with lyrics from the William Blake poem “The Angel.” Compared to the epic film version with Jon’s vocals, the pop version was terrible (in my opinion). I believe that version was intended for the closing credits, not the end of the film. It was replaced with the Bryan Ferry/David Gilmour song “Is Your Love Strong Enough”.
