• The #Dactyloidae are a family of lizards commonly known as anoles. The family is generally considered to be monotypic, containing only the genus Anolis; however recent genetic research has identified several clades within Anolis which may sometimes be elevated to generic standards. Scientists Alex Gunderson & Manuel Leal of #Duke University, examined how the physiology has evolved. Anolis #lizards are a model system for studies of evolutionary ecology because they are remarkably adaptable creatures. We know from long-term studies…that #anoles can rapidly adapting their behavior and morphology. For example, the presence of a ground-dwelling #predator forged a strong and rapid change with longer hindlimbs within a single generation used to climb higher. The over all group of Anoles is a beautiful example of Island bio-evolution, much like the finches that #Darwin brought home from the #Galapagos. #evolution #evolutionaryBiology @robertclarkphoto @thephotosociety @instituteartist @natgeo by natgeo http://ift.tt/1UvZwNt
