• Bald Eagle Parents Watching Over the Nest – Nest # 2 I was going through some old photos from this season and came across this one of both parents in the nest tree. For those that have been following the eaglets since the beginning, you can tell mom is on the left (with the drooping pupil) and dad on the right. Believe it or not this is the only photo I have of both of them in the nest, unlike nest # 1 both of the parents would often be in the tree together. The perching branch that they are on came down in a windstorm back in June and used to be a favorite perching spot for mom. Tough times for eagles in the first year, a local raptor rehab recently brought in 18 youngsters with a variety of injuries. • Pair of Young Bucks – At first I thought someone had planted two very realistic young buck statues in their yard. I’d been photographing shore birds in Charlestown, RI and luckily had my camera by my side. • Mink – East Stourmouth, Plucks Gutter – First ever time seeing a mink, this was one of a pair which were coming in and out a boat on the river Stour. They have an unfair reputation of being vicious and evil but all I saw were two incredibly playful animals which were doing what they do. Even though so much wildlife which was once abundant has disappeared from the river, it still made me incredibly sad knowing that these creatures – that never asked to be here – would probably have been shot by now.
