Ferryland, located on the southern shore of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula, is one of the oldest settlements in North America. Used as a migratory fishing station throughout the 15th century it was officially founded as the Colony of Avalon in the year 1621 by George Calvert who was later to be known as Lord Baltimore, founder of Maryland in the United States.
