Week 29 – Animals
In the absence of any wandering hippos, ostrich or wildebeest in our back garden, I had to draw on Blake’s modelling talents once more.
As you can tell, he has a look of silent resignation as soon as the camera comes out now.
For those of you new to the group, I can introduce you to the joys of greyhound ownership – the fabulous but dopey 45mph couch potatoes. Like most retired racers (and most of those you see in a domestic situation are) they have generally had a very harsh start in life, and if they don’t make the grade within the first couple of years of their professional lives, they are ‘moved on’. Blake was one of the lucky ones and had a caring kennel maid who managed to get him to a rescue centre, but thousands and thousands each year are ‘disposed of’. Fit, healthy animals who make such wonderful soft pets.
There are many rescue groups in the UK, USA and Europe operating as charitable organisations, and if you ever find yourself in a position to support them, I urge you to do so.
Thank you. Soapbox away.
