Whoever controls Crimea will win the war in Ukraine, a top Lieutenant has predicted.

According to retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, the gruelling war of attrition along the eastern frontlines no longer dictates the final outcome of the conflict.

Instead, Hodges argues that Crimea is the ultimate “decisive terrain” and the absolute focal point of the entire war. In his view, a sustainable peace is completely impossible if Russia maintains its grip on the peninsula, as Moscow will continue to use it to choke off Ukraine’s access to the Sea of Azov and paralyze vital economic shipping ports like Odesa. Simply put: whoever controls Crimea wins the war.
