After the start of the Ukraine war there was a massive wave of Russians leaving Russia. People fled out of fear of persecution, for political and economic reasons. Myself I left Russia 4 years ago. And now life for Russians outside Russia is about to get much worse – Russia just passed a new ‘traitor law’, which basically makes Russians who left the country second class citizens and effectively stateless. Let’s talk about why Russia wants to stop Russians from fleeing, and why even outside Russia anti Putin Russians are not safe. I’ll also talk about how this affects me.
